Work with me

I advise founders and executives, and I invest at the pre-seed and seed stage.

Advising

I’m happy to give free advice. I love talking with founders and executives about the hardest problems they have. Consulting only comes in when the work is ongoing and takes time away from something else. Most of the time a quick call is enough to get some perspective.

My experience is B2B SaaS, from founding and running Parse.ly, and that covers a lot of ground:

Building
Founded a company from the start, through product/market fit, to scale and through to acquisition. Each phase is an entirely different company, but you have to carry one coherent vision across all of them.
Fundraising
Raised tens of millions of dollars in capital and debt. First-time founders get enamored with the dollars. Knowing the impact of any raise matters far more.
Sustainable growth
Led a company past $10M ARR to profitability and then to 40% year-over-year growth. It’s very hard, and it’s possible.
Go-to-market
How you acquire prospects, turn them into customers and help them grow is the engine you’re building. It has to be right.
Recruiting
Hired C-levels, VPs, marketers, salespeople, CS, engineers and back office. Recruiting can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be.
Layoffs
Had to downsize significantly when we churned large customers at the same time. There is a right way to do it. We kept a 5.0 Glassdoor rating through to acquisition.
Sales
Mid-market to enterprise, including many Fortune 500 companies.
Marketing
Learned a ton about what makes B2B marketing work, most of it in my last couple of years at Parse.ly.
Investor relations
I’ve run some terrible board meetings. Practice brought a formula for getting your board working with you toward your goals.

Investing

I invest in startups at the pre-seed and seed stage. If you’re looking for an operator who is founder-friendly, has been through it, and is willing to dig in and help, I’d love to hear about your company.

Need help, want to talk something through, or want to tell me what you’re building?
